of Finance Assistant with UNICEF Mogadishu.
If
successful, you’ll be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Nairobi and
Somalia that “works together to improve the health, nutrition, water,
sanitation, hygiene, and basic education of Somali girls and boys and protect
them from violence, exploitation and abuse".
The
successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year.
Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds
and satisfactory performance.
Purpose
of the post
Under
supervision of the Operations Manager, performs moderately specialized tasks in
the accounting and finance functions.
Major
duties and responsibilities:
·
Maintains
financial records for projects or other office accounts for which
responsibility is assigned. Codes and records receipts and payments, assures
accuracy of computation and completeness of documents, and maintains continuing
status of allotments against obligations
·
Prepares
recurring reports on assigned accounts, noting problems resulting from excess
cost or less-than-expected receipts. Prepares special reports to clarify
problems or for other reasons.
·
Calculates
and compiles cost estimates and projected budget requirements and assists in
preparation of budget statements for area of assignment.
·
Prepares
routine correspondence and maintains personal and telephone contacts with
others to discuss matters concerning accounts, and related assignments.
·
Maintains
contact with local banks to clarify questions pertaining to office bank
accounts.
·
Briefs
and assists newly arrived international staff, experts and consultants on basic
financial procedures and requirements with respect to payments, entitlements,
banking and currency provisions and other requirements relating to accounts and
finance.
·
Performs
other related duties, as required.
Qualifications,
Experience and competencies
·
Completion
of secondary education. Ability to operate computer with different software,
calculator, other machines used to maintain accounts. Additional relevant
accounting or financial training is desirable.
·
At
least Six (6)years’ experience in accounting clerical work
·
Commitment
to meeting deadlines and drive for results.
·
Good
interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact readily with
staff members at all levels.
·
A
good knowledge of English and the local language of the duty station.
·
Ability
to work under pressure is required.
