Operation Theatre Nursing Lead Tutor,

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will contribute to the successful implementation of:
• A one-year OT Nurse Training Course
• Plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of
instruction in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MoH), Pharo, other tutors, SLNMA, and
Hargeisa Institute of Health Sciences (HIOHS) .
• Monitor effective implementation of the curriculum  and evaluate students achievements
including knowledge, skills, and attitudes throughout the training
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide leadership, supervision and mentoring for Lecturers.
2. Support the effective management and implementation of the overall programme, giving
particular emphasis to monitoring and quality assurance.
3. Maintain an up to date knowledge of OT Nursing Education and ensure professional, academic
and clinical practice credibility.

4. Actively participate in the revision and development of OT nursing curriculum.  
5. Involve other guest speakers with surgical, anesthesia and other relevant expertize.
6. Actively participate in the selection and interviewing of candidates for course, helping ensure
that entrance requirements are met.  Assist in the induction of new staff and students. 2
7. Ensure effective coordination of training delivery.
8. Undertake teaching and marking responsibilities as required for students.
9. Participate in the development, revision, implementation and administration of courses and
study days.
10. Evaluate own teaching input and actively participating in quality assurance evaluation and
audit.
11. Contribute to the HIOHS as a Lecturer and via team and staff meetings.
12. To ensure effective clinical supervision and practice facilitation of students.
13. Ensure effective communication with students, staff and those working in the institutions
(both hospital and school).
14. To be an effective role model to all staff within the working environment and to students
studying there.
15. Have an awareness of own development and training needs.
16. Ensure adherence to training institute policies and procedure at all times.
17. Work within the clinical guidelines.  
18. Give constructive feedback to the students about their progress and challenges and mentor
those students who have specific challenges or who need particular help.
19. Ensure that training equipment, facilities and the broader training environment are effectively
managed.
20. Promote safe working practices.
21. Maintain accurate records and assist in the collation of data in relation to assessments and
service statistics.
22. Participate in programme related events
23. Assist in the preparation of reports (narrative and financial) for management, MOHL, and
donor institutions.
24. Undertake any additional duties deemed appropriate to skills, experience and ability.
Required qualification and competencies
Essential
• Education to degree level in a related subject area
• A recognized professional Surgical /OT nurse
• At least two years in a supervisory role within a relevant health training environment
• Evidence of teaching skills e.g. Certificate Ed, PGCE, or extensive teaching experience
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent English language skills – both oral and written
• Ability to use the clinical supervision process effectively
• Leadership skills and ability to build an effective team
• Accountability and integrity
• Creativity and problem solving skills
• Ability to identify and use opportunities for self-development  
• Commitment to the values of Equal Opportunities, policy and practice.  
• Programme coordination experience
• Ability to use I.T. skills – Power point  3
Desirable
• An additional nursing registration e.g. maternal and neonatal nursing, anesthesia, and so on
• Postgraduate level education
• A publication record in relevant professional or research journals
Compensation
The successful candidate will be compensated by a competitive and attractive salary depending on
experience and  benefit package including R&R, accommodation, transport, flight ticket to and from
working area
Note that this is an unaccompanied position.
